Tiger and JP’s unlikely friendship

You might’ve seen amid the madness that was Tiger Woods’ eagerly anticipated return to competitive golf earlier this year at the Masters, that a certain VIP guest nabbed a quiet word with the great man where few others could.   At Augusta National, as Woods made his...

My day with Tiger Woods

My day with Tiger Woods

After a highly successful (miraculous, more like) comeback at The Masters, Tiger Woods turned his thoughts towards competing in the 150th Open Championship at The Old Course in the middle of July. The question of a well-rehearsed, routine of coming to Ireland to...

Months of hard graft and grinding across the fairways of Ireland will culminate at Malone from today as the AIG Ladies Cups and Shields Finals commence.

The coveted AIG Ladies Cups and Shields comprise of six categories; the Junior Cup, Minor Cup, Intermediate Cup, Challenge Cup, which are all singles Matchplay competitions, and two team events, the Senior Foursomes and Junior Foursomes.

This is the 3rd year that AIG are title sponsors of the Ladies Cups and Shields and General Manager Declan O’Rourke is delighted to be involved, “When AIG extended its existing relationship with the ILGU in 2015 by announcing a four year sponsorship of the Ladies Cups and Shields it reinforced AIG’s already existing commitment to supporting ladies amateur golf in Ireland. After a very successful finals at Dundalk last year, we look forward to another four days of exciting competition at the highest club level of golf at Malone.”

Mountbellew may well head home the biggest winners as their Intermediate Cup, Minor Cup and Challenge Cup teams claimed honours at the Connacht Finals, while Shandon Park and Lurgan both have two teams in action chasing national pennants.

Another two clubs that will be vying for double glory are Lucan, East Leinster Senior Foursomes Champions, and Cahir Park, Mid Leinster Intermediate Cup Champions.

There will be a range of handicaps and abilities on show but you can be guaranteed the kind of intense competition that would rival that of any other golfing event on the island. From us here at IGM, best of luck to all involved, enjoy the occasion and treasure the memories.

The AIG Ladies Cups and Shields National Finals will be hosted by Malone Golf Club from 27 – 30 September.
