Conor O’Rourke kept up the pace yesterday at the European Amateur and is just two shots off the lead at the halfway stage.

It was a day for low scoring at Walton Heath yesterday as rounds of 63 and 64 were carded by Mathias Schmidt of Germany and and Victor Pastor (Cordoba) and while they jumped significantly on the leaderboard to fourth and first respectively the overnight leaders didn’t move too much.

Ireland’s Conor O’Rourke (Naas) maintained his position with a round of 70 which leaves him just two shots adrift on -7, while Robin Dawson (Tramore) shot a 73 to drop down to three under par and in a tie for 32nd place.

Alex Gleeson (Castle) is T39 on -2 alongside Colm Campbell (Warrenpoint) and Stuart Grehan (Tullamore). Jonahan Yates is lying just outside the cut mark in T64 place and with only the top 60 and ties progressing after today’s round he has a bit of work to do.

John Ross Galbraith (Whitehead) is on +1 and T77 with Thomas Mulligan (Laytown & Bettystown) in T94 on +3.
