Maria Dunne is the leading Irish player at the Ladies British Amateur at Pyle & Kenfig after the first day’s play.

The first two rounds of the event are stroke play qualifying with the top 64 progessing to the match play stages and after an opening round of 69 in pleasant and sunny conditions at the South Wales course, Skerries player Maria Dunne is best placed of the Irish contingent on -2,  just four shots off the lead held by Sweden’s Linn Grant.

Leona Maguire (Slieve Russell) and Paula Grant (Lisburn) are a shot further back on -1 while Olivia Mehaffey (RCD Ladies) and Mairead Martin (Kanturk) are on level par. Lisa Maguire (Slieve Russell) and Ciara Casey (Hermitage) are T41 on +2 while Chloe Ryan (Castletroy) is currently sitting just outside the cut mark in T72 (+4) and will need a good day today to make it to the match play stages. Sinead Sexton (Lahinch) & Valerie Clancy (Killarney) are 141 and 142 respectively
