For the second time in three years Ireland’s Leona Maguire, the number one ranked ladies amateur golfer in the world has finished runner-up in the NCAA Golf Championships.

In a heavily rain affected event Maguire, representing Duke University, was by far the best of the Duke University competitors and was narrowly beaten by one shot by Monica Vaughan from Arizona State.  Jennifer Kupcho had been two strokes ahead standing on the 17th but a triple bogey there ended her chances and Vaughan stepped up to claim the win.

Olivia Mehaffey and her Arizona State team go through to the next stage as the focus now moves to the match play stages and the line-up for the quarter finals today is;

Northwestern -v- Kent State
Standord -v- Baylor
Ohio State -v- Southern Cal
Arizona State -v- Florida
