Three birdies in his final five holes lifted Pádraig Harrington up to solo third place at the PGA Tour Champions’ The Ally Challenge at Warwick Hills, with Michael Block coming through to take the lead.
Harrington shot an opening seven-under 65 to lie second on the leaderboard but he found the going much tougher on day two.
The Dubliner was level-par through 13 having made just one birdie – on the par-3 eighth – and dropped a shot on the par-5 13th, but back-to-back birdies on 14 and 15 and closing birdie on the par-5 18th got him back to within three of the lead as he looks to claim a second win of the campaign.
Block, playing on sponsor’s invitations, made an opening eagle then added five further birdies to move to 13-under and into a two-stroke lead over New Zealand’s Steven Alker.
Harrington, who turns 55 on Monday, will join Block and Alker in a mouthwatering final group.
Chris Devlin shot a two-over 74 that dropped him into a tie for 40th at -1.
