Sergio Garcia looks set to become the latest big name addition to the Amgen Irish Open with the Spaniard reportedly teeing it up at Trump International Golf Links, Doonbeg next month.
Garcia, who is an Irish Open champion of 1999, confirmed to GolfMagic that he will compete in three more DP World Tour appearances before the end of the season with Ireland being one of his destinations.
The former Masters champion has already informed the DP World Tour of his intention to rejoin for the 2027 campaign with the starts in Switzerland, Ireland and Spain taking him up to five events of the current season which is one more than the four required to regain membership for next year.
“I’ve already informed them that I will be taking my membership next season,” Garcia, who gave up his membership in 2023, told GolfMagic.
Garcia’s fellow Spaniard and two-time Irish Open winner Jon Rahm is also pencilled in to compete at Doonbeg next month and is reportedly ready to jump ship from LIV with the DP World Tour also on alert.
Garcia had settled his fines of approximately $1 million in attempt to regain membership and earn a spot on last year’s European Ryder Cup team but he was unable to earn a captain’s pick from Luke Donald.
The 46-year-old looks set for a permanent card on the DP World Tour next year having relied on invites for this campaign.
LIV Golf’s future is looking increasingly uncertain despite CEO Scott O’Neil saying a provisional investor was found to keep the Saudi backed tour alive.
The breakaway tour yesterday confirmed to the players that the $40 million Team Championship is officially cancelled while several big name players appear likely to leave.
