Moneyball – Career-high paycheques for Donegan and Brennan

While it had been a relatively successful rookie season for Áine Donegan on the LET prior to the PIF London Championship, visiting three continents and making nine cuts in her 12 starts, she’d only amassed just under €25,000 in earnings.

Her performance at the Centurion Club in London – a tie for 10th – saw her more than double her season’s tally, picking up €36,321.73. It will feel a little bittersweet, however, as she played her final three holes in four-over-par and had she played them in level-par or better, she’d have claimed at least €55k, and had she managed to emulate Saturday’s finish where she birdied each of them – and the 15th for even better measure – she’d have picked up over €82k.

Still, the finish was accompanied with a sizeable rise up the rankings ahead of a return home for the KPMG Women’s Irish Open in a fortnight’s time.

Anna Foster, who finished tied for 37th, earned just over €11k, while Sara Byrne picked up more than €6.6k for a T51 finish.

The biggest money, as it usually is, was being dished out in the United States, however, with the Wyndham Championship – the final regular event on the PGA Tour – and LIV Golf New York being held.

At the Wyndham, Michael Brennan put on a clinical final-round display to pick up a winner’s cheque of $1.53 million, to earn a Masters invitation for 2027, and to make a giant leap up the FedEx Cup rankings and into the top 70 who will contest the FedEx St Jude Championship this week.

Beau Hossler, who in the same boat as Brennan when they began the final round tied for the lead, had to console himself with earning $926,500 and finishing 72nd in the FedEx Rankings.

At Trump National Bedminster, Joaquin Niemann ran out a three-stroke winner over Harold Varner III and claimed his ninth individual win since joining LIV in 2022.

The $4 million first prize takes his career-earnings on LIV to over $80 million, having earned $15.9 million on the PGA Tour over a similar time period.

Tom McKibbin’s tie for sixth was worth $608,333, while Graeme McDowell’s week was one to forget as he propped up the leaderboard but still earned $50,000.

It was also confirmed that Jon Rahm, despite having his worst finish since joining LIv, would win his third successive individual rankings title and will add another $6 million to his total earnings on LIV which will now cross the $120 million threshold.
