Liam Nolan was getting the drinks in for his playing partner Maxwell Martin after he carded his first ever hole in one during round three of the Scottish Challenge.
Nolan’s moment of glory came at the 203-yard par-3 8th en route to a 69 to lie on six-under-par alongside Mark Power in 42nd place. After a blistering opening 64 it hasn’t been the tournament that the Galway man would have hoped for but he has a reason to smile.
“I hit a shot right in there yesterday and it was pretty much on the spot where it was going to be today so I got on the tee and jokingly said let’s hit the exact same shot as yesterday. I was able to do that which is mad because it’s my first one ever,” said Nolan who is ten shots shy of leader Christofer Blomstrand.
“I was getting to a point where I would get mad where I hit a good shot and it didn’t go in so now I’m just able to be thankful of a good shot rather than getting mad at them.”
The 26-year-old was in a jovial mood after his round and while he will leave a few quid behind the bar for Martin’s family to treat themselves to a few cold beverages, he will be staying out of the clubhouse and instead plans to do some extra practice on the driving range as he looks to finish his week on a high note and gather some momentum heading into the Irish Challenge at Killeen Castle.
“I should definitely get a round for Max’s family that were out following I have a bit of practice to do unfortunately so I don’t think I will be partaking.
“I had a disappointing day yesterday so the hole in one definitely softens the blow. Just looking to get some momentum and try and finish well tomorrow.”
The aforementioned Power also carded a 69 as he moved in the right direction while Max Kennedy fell back to a share of 59th place on three-under with a round of 73.
