The 12 golfers to compete in the Last-Chance Qualifier at Royal Birkdale on Monday 13 July have been announced by The R&A.
The final place in The 154th Open will be the prize on offer as players compete over 18 holes of stroke play starting at 7.30am to determine the winner. In the event of a tie after 18 holes, a play-off will take place.
The field has been determined by the criteria previously announced in December last year and will include the following golfers who have accepted invites to compete:
- Aldrich Potgieter
- Matti Schmid
- Matt Moloney (a)
- Joe Dean
- Sam Easterbrook (a)
- Adri Arnaus
- John Gough
- Angel Hidalgo
- Charles Huntzinger
- Marcus Helligkilde
- Andrew Wilson
- Wesley Bryan
Gough, a second-generation Irishman and Killeen Castle member was one of those to narrowly miss out on booking his place at Final Qualifying when he missed out on a playoff by the smallest margin at Royal Cinque Ports, while Moloney was the beaten finalist in this year’s Amateur Championship where Stuart Grehan prevailed and punched his ticket to Royal Birkdale.
Bryan, a former PGA Tour winner, is one half of the Bryan Bros YouTube channel, and like Gough, missed out by one stroke at the Final Qualifying Stage at West Lancashire.
The field is subject to change between now and the Last-Chance Qualifier starting on Monday 13 July. The draw for the Last-Chance Qualifier will be announced on Saturday 11 July.
