Robert Moran and Hugh Foley are both through to the final round of the Alps Tour’s Fred Olsen Alps de la Gomera at Tecina Golf in Tenerife, but they are well down the leaderboard.
Moran began the day just outside the top 10 after a four-under 67 in round one, but despite two birdies at the end of his opening nine to make the turn at two-under, he couldn’t pick up any further shots and a mistake on the par-3 fourth resulted in a one-under round of 70 that saw him fall 15 places on the leaderboard to T27.
Foley was on the wrong side of the provisional cutline at the start of play, but he signalled his intent with birdies on each of his opening three holes. He traded a bogey on six with a birdie on seven and made the turn at -3 for the day and -2 overall.
Another birdie on 10 moved him closer to getting his head above the cutline, but a bogey on 14 left him needing to pick up two shots over the closing four holes to have any chance of seeing final-round action. He did exactly that, birdieing the 15th and 17th and closed out with a par and waited for good news that eventually came as his participation was confirmed.
Sam Murphy shot a two-under 69 to get to -3 but missed the cut by the minimum, while Cathal MacCanna finished his second round at level-par overall and still awaits his first paycheque since joining the tour.
Holland’s Lars Keunen moved to the front with a six-under 65, and he takes a one-stroke lead into the final round over Italian’s Luca Memeo and Marco Florioli, Swiss Miximilien Sturdza and Alfonso Buendia of Spain.
