Support is surging for Tommy Fleetwood to finally secure his maiden major title ahead of the U.S. Open at Shinnecock Hills.
The popular Southport man finished runner-up the last time the US Open was staged at the New York venue in 2018 and confidence is high that he can go one better this time, with BOYLE Sports forced to trim his odds into 14/1 (from 20/1).
Fleetwood is not the only Englishman catching the eye of punters, with 2022 US Open champion Matt Fitzpatrick also attracting strong support. Fitzpatrick has been also been cut into 14/1 (from 25/1) following a runner-up finish at last week’s Canadian Open, further strengthening England’s hand heading into the tournament.
At the head of the market, Scottie Scheffler is the 5/1 favourite, while Masters champion Rory McIlroy is priced at 9/1 as he looks to claim a second major title of the season.
Lawrence Lyons, spokesperson for BOYLE Sports, said: “Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy are weak in the market by their usual standards and Thomas Tuchel’s Three Lions aren’t being well backed in the World Cup either, but there are some Englishmen being tipped to make a splash stateside. Tommy Fleetwood in particular is proving very popular given his record at Shinnecock, while Matt Fitzpatrick’s recent form has also seen him firmly backed to contend.”
