Ireland’s Leona Maguire faces a stern test to land her first major title ahead of the Chevron Championship, which tees off this week at Memorial Park Golf Course.

The Cavan native is currently priced at 225/1 by BOYLE Sports to break her major duck in Houston, with the market reflecting the competitive nature of the field for the season’s opening women’s major.

Maguire arrives off the back of a missed cut at last week’s JM Eagle LA Championship, but had shown encouraging signs the week prior when finishing runner-up to Lauren Coughlin at the Aramco Championship, posting the same score as world number two Nelly Korda.

Korda heads the market at 5/1 to land a third career major title, while world number one Jeeno Thitikul is next best at 11/1 as the betting suggests a strong challenge from the top tier of the women’s game.

Lawrence Lyons, spokesperson for BOYLE Sports, said: “Leona Maguire has it all to do on paper this week and the odds reflect just how competitive the field is. But there have been encouraging signs lately and despite her long odds, patriotic punters will be hoping she can rediscover her best form on the major stage.”
