Thomas Higgins and Gavin Tiernan are in fine form heading into the summer with the Walker Cup on the horizon as they impressed again for their collegiate teams over Masters weekend.

Roscommon star Higgins was the key figure as his Clemson team charged to the team title at the Mountaineer Invitational.

Higgins, who represented Ireland at last year’s European Team Championships in Killarney, claimed second place in the individual event on ten-under-par after rounds of 71, 66 and 69 as he finished one shot behind Oklahoma’s Preston Stout.

Higgins’ total was enough to spearhead his team @ Pete Dye in Bridgeport for the Tigers second win of the campaign. Clemson’s total of 20-under-par 844 was enough for a four-shot win.

Higgins who passed the 100 round mark for Clemson had a previous best finish of fourth place at Briar’s Creek Invitational in 2024.

Meanwhile, County Louth star Tiernan registered his third top-10 finish of the season with a seven-under-par total which marked his first tournament of the season with al three rounds under par as he shot 67, 69 and 67 to claim fourth place at the Tar Heel Intercollegiate.

This was the concluding regular season event for East Tennessee State before they tee it up at the Southern Conference Championship from April 27-29.
