Padraig Harrington struggled once again at Firestone and fell out of contention at the Senior PGA Championships in Akron, while Darren Clarke sits six behind the three leaders.
Harrington started brightly with birdies on the second and the fourth, but five bogey’s in the next nine holes led to a two-over-par 72, for a five-over-par total, ten back of Tim Petrovic, Steven Alker and Ricardo Gonzalez on five-under-par.
Darren Clarke carded a second consecutive level-par 70 to sit level-par, just five back of the leaders.
Petrovic shot a four-under-par 66 on Friday for a share of the second-round lead with Alker and Gonzalez in the third major of the year on PGA TOUR Champions and he closed with a birdie on the par-4 ninth.
Alker, from New Zealand, shot a 66 and Gonzalez, the Argentine player who shared the first-round lead with Søren Kjeldsen, shot a two-under-par 68 and
Miguel Angel Jiménez is a stroke further back after a four-under-par 66. Freddie Jacobson is three-under-par after a 67.
Cabrera, who already has won two majors this year at the Regions Tradition and the Senior PGA Championship at Congressional, is one-under-par after a 68.
The winner of the tournament gets a spot in THE PLAYERS Championship in 2026 at TPC Sawgrass.
Harrington gets his third round underway at 4.20pm Irish time off the tenth tee alongside Bob Estes and Colin Montgomerie, and Darren Clarke gets his moving day underway at 5.44 pm Irish time.
