The cream certainly came to the top at Castle Golf Club as Niall Kearney, Tim Rice and Liam Grehan shared the spoils on Sunday afternoon.
The big hitting trio were all tied at the top on two-under-par after rounds of 68 with Simon Thornton and Colm Moriarty sharing fourth place on one-under.
Royal Dublin’s Kearney opened his round with a bogey on the par-5 1st but rallied to the turn with birdies on the 8th and 9th to complete a front nine of 34.
Kearney had to show his powers of recovery once again after a horror start to his back nine with a bogey on the 10th being followed by a double bogey on the par-4 11th.
The reigning PGA champion responded with aplomb, rolling in birdies on the 12th, 14th and 16th before landing an eagle on the par-5 17th.
Despite a dropped shot on 18, Kearney did enough to cling on to top spot.
Limerick’s Rice finished with back to back birdies to join Kearney at the top while Grehan, on his first start since returning from the Sunshine Tour, also finished strong with birdies on the 16th and 17th to grab a share of the lead.
