Cormac Sharvin earned his first win of the 2025 PGA in Ireland season on his first start of the campaign at the Flogas Pro-Am in Knightsbrook Golf Club.
In testing conditions that included a strong wind and some showers, Sharvin skipped around in seven-under 65 to win by two shots from defending Elavon Order of Merit champion, and reigning Irish PGA champion Niall Kearney.
It’s Sharvin’s second win on the region after clinching the K Club Pro-Am last season.
The Ardglass man who represents Elm Park Golf Club took a break from golf at the end of 2023 and was unsure if he would return to the sport at a competitive level and had grown comfortable at the thought of never teeing it up on tour again.
But working in Elm Park has rekindled his love for the game as he studies his PGA degree.
“I definitely am (playing with a smile) it was getting pretty monotonous for a while and I was struggling with a few different things but it’s just nice, I have a mantra of it doesn’t matter, it doesn’t matter how I play.
“I’m trying to go on the golf course and start enjoying myself because I know when that happens I can play some great golf. Hopefully that’s the start of me getting back to where I want to be.”
Despite the conditions it proved to be a low scoring day in Knightsbrook with eleven of the 25 player field shooting under-par.
Brendan McCarroll of Foyle Golf Centre and Roganstown’s Neil O’Briain shared fourth place on four-under while Brian McElhinney of North West and Cahir Park’s Paul Rivers were two-under.
The K Club’s Gary Murphy shared eight place on one-under alongside Richard Kilpatrick, Nicky Grant and Brian McCormack.
McCormack was also in the prizes as his team won the team competition with a score of 90 points.
