Fears that weather conditions would worsen and that Thursday’s scheduled opening round of the 2024 Masters would be put on hold appear to have eased as Augusta National released a statement saying that play would get underway at 10:30 am local time.

This means just a two-and-a-half hour delay to proceedings and, barring any further developments, most of the 88 players should get their opening rounds completed on day one.

Rory McIlroy, playing alongside world number one and tournament favourite Scottie Scheffler and fellow American Xander Schauffele now begins at 1:12 pm local time (6:12 pm Irish time), with Shane Lowry scheduled to start at 7:54 pm Irish time alongside Akshay Bhatia and J.T. Poston.

With the sun officially setting at 7:56 in Augusta, Lowry will have just over five hours to complete round one without having to return for additional early morning holes, but Tiger Woods, starting at 3:54 pm local time, is among those who will most likely have to return in the early morning to complete round one.

As always, the tournament committee have varied the pin locations, mixing in some favourable ones like on holes one and 16, while the pins on five and 10, two of the tougher holes on the course, are tough to access.
