The Irish European Nations team has been announced and Seán Keeling, winner of this week’s Flogas Irish Boys’ Amateur Open, is among the four names selected.

The 17-year-old will join Hugh Foley (The Royal Dublin), Jack Hearn (Tramore) and Matthew McClean (Malone) for the trip to Spain later this month.

Real Club de Golf Sotogrande will host the event from 17-20 April with Keeling and Hearn part of the same selection again, following on from their selection in the Men’s Octagonal matches last January.

The tournament is a 72-hole strokeplay singles event with the leading three daily scores from each participating nation counting towards the team prize.

Past Irish individual winners include Padraig Harrington in 1991, Rory McIlroy and Shane Lowry in 2007 and 2008 respectively, and Jack Hume in 2016, with the latter leading the nation to our first ever overall team victory since the team concept was inaugurated in 1998.

Both Alex Gleeson and Robin Dawson have also finished as individual runners-up.

Team:

Hugh Foley (The Royal Dublin)

Jack Hearn (Tramore)

Sean Keeling (Roganstown)

Matthew McClean (Malone)

Men’s Captain: Niall MacSweeney (Athenry)

Men’s Coach: Micheal Collins
