Keith Egan (Carton House) and Anna Abom (Edmondstown) top the early Bridgestone Order of Merit as the championship season got underway for 2024.

Egan’s win at The Connolly Motor Group West of Ireland Amateur Open Championship puts him top of the men’s rankings as he looks to improve on last years 16th place finish.

The Carton House golfer got his season off to a magnificent start with a 3&2 victory over local hopeful David Brady (Straffan) in the final. Egan managed the tough County Sligo conditions expertly and has put himself clear in the standings after the first event of Brady and Castleknock’s Paul Coughlan, the latter of whom finished eighth last season.

Abom leads the way in the women’s rankings, starting her season with victory in the Royal County Down Ladies Scratch Cup, carding a 75 and a 79 to win by the minimum over Maggie Whitehead (Close House) and last year’s Women’s Bridgestone Order of Merit runner up, Aideen Walsh (Lahinch).

Walsh finds herself in a three-way tie for second and has Emma Fleming (Elm Park) and Kate Lanigan (Hermitage) for company behind Abom.

This Sunday April 7th the next women’s event tees off in county Wicklow with the Woodbrook Scratch Cup, while the men make their way to Cork for the Munster Men’s Amateur Open Championship on May 4th.
