With the agreement of the West of Ireland Championship Committee, Golf Ireland and ISPS Handa will stage a trial G4D event on Easter Monday and Tuesday (1-2 April) alongside the closing stages of the Connolly-Audi West of Ireland Championship.

12 of Ireland’s leading players with a disability, including current World No.2 Brendan Lawlor and current Irish Open Champion Alan Gaynor will tee it up in County Sligo for the 36-hole event, which will be a counting event on the World Rankings for Golfers with a Disability.

Lawlor and Gaynor are paired together in the first group of the Provisional Draw for Round One in what will be an exciting way to kick off the event.

As part of the agreement struck up between Golf Ireland and ISPS HANDA to bring Irish disability golf to the next level, G4D Open champion, Lawlor feels that having an event run alongside the West of Ireland Championship this Easter Bank Holiday is just a taste of what he hopes ISPS HANDA can provide.

“It’s extremely exciting, I’m very lucky to have worked very closely with ISPS Handa for the last four years and what they believe in through the power of sport is a prime example of what we do in golf. I’m delighted and honoured to be an ambassador and the combination with Golf Ireland is huge, not just for the elite side but for getting people into the game and getting the message out there, it’s fantastic.

“We need that backing from guys like ISPS Handa to push that message out for us. Golf Ireland have been amazing but we want to get to that next level.”
