Cork’s John Hickey and Naas’ Robert Brazill are solo fourth and tied fifth respectively after another tough day of scoring at La Canada Golf Club in southern Spain.

Hickey, who opened with a one-over 72, failed to make a birdie but eagled the par-5 third hole, dropping shots at nine, 12, 13 and 15 to shoot a two-over 73 and post +3, while Brazill will be feeling a little frustrated after birdieing five holes, making three bogeys, but double-bogeying both the third and final holes to end the day at +4.

Nevertheless, Brazill heads the amateur category, tied Holland’s Tom Van Balen and England’s Alex Emms, with James Temple in solo-fourth in the category at +6.

Spanish-based Karl McCormack is fifth in the professional category and eighth overall at +5, with Rory Gallagher, the last Irishman remaining in the field, lying on +10 going into the third and final round.

Local man Mario Galiano backed up his opening 69 with an impressive 68 to move two clear at the top at -5, with Frenchman Paul Margolis lying second at -3.

German Hannes Ruhnau is the only other player under par, and he occupies solo third at -1.
