Stuart Grehan fired a wedge to a foot on the last to set up a winning birdie as he claimed the first event of Swing 2 on the Winter Tour at Villa Padierna Golf Club.

After an opening round of 70 and a blistering second round of 64, Grehan carried a two-shot lead into the final day and a closing 70 which included two birdies in his last three holes gave him a one shot victory on nine-under-par.

“I played nice the first day, the second day I played lovely golf and today was a bit ropey,” explained the Tullamore man.

“I didn’t have my best stuff but was able to grind it out and to finish birdie, par, birdie was really nice and I knew I needed to birdie the last and hit a wedge from 150 to a foot.

“It was nice and a nice way to start the year as something to build on, a few things in the game are still not there but if I can win and still feel not all there, that’s obviously a good sign.”

Grehan held a two shot overnight lead over his namesake, Liam, who had to settle for ninth place on level-par.
