Colm Moriarty made it six wins on the PGA in Ireland region as he continued his prolific run at the Synergy Golf Pro-Am in St Margaret’s Golf and Country Club.
The Glasson Lakehouse professional is used to burning hot on the golf course having already scorched the course record at Elm Park and he carded a blistering eight-under 65 to pip Shane Jenkinson by the minimum in Margaret’s.
Moriarty carded a clean card with birdies on the second, sixth and eighth before reeling off further gains on the eleventh and twelfth.
The former Challenge Tour winner powered home with three birdies in a row from the 15th to take his sixth pro-am title.
“I’m delighted to do it, it was one of those days where I built a good score and we all know those types of days don’t come along too often unfortunately but when they do you have to take advantage of it so it’s very pleasing,” said Moriarty.
“I’ve been playing well the last while, played well in the Club Pros, played decent in Newlands and it all came together in Elm Park a few weeks ago so I am playing well.”
Behind him was Jenkinson who put his course familiarity to good use with a 66 while Simon Thornton continued his excellent run of form to claim third with a six-under 67. Tim Rice, Keith Shannon and Mark O’Mahony shared fourth place on three-under with David Ryan, Eoin O’Connor and Eoin O’Brien a shot further back.
Derry’s Michael McGeady was also among the prizes as his team won the team competition with a score of 92 points.
