Tim Rouse has been announced as Captain of Great Britain & Ireland for next year’s PGA Cup match against the United States.
A little over a month after being announced as Captain of the Association for 2023/24, Rouse will lead the Great Britain & Ireland team at the 31st PGA Cup clash in America.
“I’m extremely proud and excited to become the 2024 Great Britain & Ireland PGA Cup Captain,” said Rouse. “It’s a great feeling to lead any team and I’m really looking forward to the challenge that lies ahead.
“As a group we will all be focused on trying to win – we will certainly be highly motivated to regain the Llandudno Trophy. Given the strength and quality of players at our disposal I’m confident that we will be able to give an excellent account of ourselves.
“I’m very much looking forward to getting to know the players and working with them in the run-up to the match – the challenge will be to create an environment that enables them to thrive and perform at their very best.”
Commenting on Rouse’s appointment, Robert Maxfield, chief executive of The PGA, added: “We are delighted Tim has accepted our invitation to lead the Great Britain & Ireland team at the 2024 PGA Cup.
“Given Tim’s background and knowledge of the game, we are confident that under his leadership, we have an excellent chance of winning back the Llandudno Trophy.
“The last time the PGA Cup was played in America, we witnessed one of the most thrilling and memorable matches as Great Britain & Ireland narrowly missed out on an historic win. We all look forward to next year’s event, which I’m sure will be another hugely entertaining match.”
The PGA Cup is a biennial contest between the PGA of Great Britain & Ireland and the PGA of America. The event is seen as the pinnacle for any PGA Professional as both teams prepare to go head-to-head in a Ryder Cup format to win The Llandudno Trophy in September 2024.
The qualification process for the Great Britain & Ireland team starts next week at the 2023 PGA Professional Championship. Players from both the 2023 and 2024 events accumulate points, with the six players with the most points from the two events qualifying for the team. The other four slots are made up of a Captain’s pick and the top three from the 2024 PGA Play-Offs.
