Lauren Walsh went on a birdie barrage in the final round of the NCAA D1 Women’s Championship as Wake Forest cruised into the matchplay stages.

Walsh shared 7th place after 72 holes of stroke play on six-under-par after a final round of 69.

The Castlewarden native carded four birdies in a row from the 5th as she turned in 32. A fifth birdie of the day came on 14 between dropped shots on 10 and 16.

Walsh finished four shots behind eventual individual winner Rose Zhang as Wake Forest qualified for matchplay in third place out of the top 8 teams.

The Deacs will face Florida State University.

“The team came out rested and ready this morning,” said Head Coach Kim Lewellen.

“They stuck to the game plan and executed in tough conditions. We’re excited to be headed to match play, especially against a familiar opponent like Florida State. We’ve seen them a lot in match play at ACC’s and are looking forward to an exciting day of golf tomorrow. Our first goal was to be in the top eight, and we’ve done that. But we still have more to achieve in the next two days. Go Deacs!”
