Roscommon’s Olivia Costello came away with more silverware this week after she captured the Flogas Irish Girls Amateur Open title at Woodbrook.

Costello closed with a two-under 72 to complete a six shot victory in the U18 category with Elm Park’s Emma Fleming and Marina Joyce-Moreno in second place on three-under.

The 15-year-old adds the Girls title to her Scottish Girls crown and her Schools title with Convent of Mercy.

“I didn’t play my best today but I was pleased with how I kept it together on the golf course,” said Costello.

Admittedly she had no grand designs in her head on winning either title but three birdies in her opening five holes garnered whispers that she might put up a late challenge to Women’s champion Lorna McClymont and Beth Coulter.

The birdies dried up however with a bogey coming on 9 and a birdie on 15 but her Girls crown was never under threat all day.

“I wasn’t really thinking about any of them I was just going out to put a few things I had worked on in practice onto the course and that’s what I went out to do and whatever happened, happened.

“When I played well I had a few putts and that was the difference between the couple of rounds that I played. There was a great crowd out which is nice to have around.

“I’m playing well and I learned a lot this week and I will bring this forward into the season.”
