Rebekah Gardner and Marina Joyce Moreno both lie inside the top-10 after the opening day of the French International U21 Girls Championship.

Both girls are on level-par after rounds of 71 and share ninth place, three shots adrift of the early lead held by Sweden’s Nora Sundberg and Spain’s Cloe Amion Villarino.

Clandeboye’s Gardner closed out her round with three successive birdies to roar into contention while Spanish based Joyce Moreno finished with seven successive pars after a rollercoaster opening 11 holes.

Overall Joyce Moreno carded four birdies and four bogeys in a hectic round of golf.

Knock’s Katie Poots and Caitlin Shippam are both struggling to make the cut after nine over rounds of 80.

Meanwhile in the Boys category at Golf de Saint Germain Douglas’ Jack Murphy and the dominant Roganstown starlet Sean Keeling share 12th place on one-under-par while Aodhagan is a shot further back in 25th place.

James Golf is three-over-par.

The lead is held by Austria’s Maximillian Puregger.
