Matthew McClean will head up Magnolia Lane next week in fine fettle after he secured a top-10 finish in the Azalea Invitational at the Country Club in Charleston.
McClean shot a final round of 72 for a 72-hole total of five-under-par.
The Malone native, making his first competitive appearance Stateside since winning the US Mid-Am championship, finished seventeen shots behind runaway winner PJ Maybank III who ended up storming to an eleven shot win on -22.
McClean carded just the one birdie on the 8th hole and dropped shots on the 2nd and 18th.
The Belfast man will become just the seventh Irish amateur to play in the Masters tournament in ten days’ time when he links up with Rory McIlroy, Seamus Power and Shane Lowry.
