Roganstown starlet Sean Keeling and Spain’s Rocio Tejedo are the current front runners to qualify for the 2023 European Junior Ryder Cup team in Rome.

The pair are tied at the top with twelve spots going for the Boys in Blue to tackle the USA from 26 to 28 of September ahead of the Ryder Cup in Marco Simone GC.

2014 Ryder Cup player Stephen Gallacher will captain the side where three girls and three boys will be automatically selected while six players will be relying on captains picks from the Scotsman.

Keeling leads the Boys ranking after a simply blistering run in Spain in Portugal.

The 16-year-old was third at last month’s Portuguese International Amateur Championship last month before stepping up to the Men’s ranks at the Spanish Amateur en route to the third round where he was beaten on the 19th by 2021 Irish Amateur Championship runner-up Nicola Gerhardsen of Switzerland.

Keeling has been in sensational form winning three times (La Serena Masters, Roda Open, Hacienda de Alamo) with his worst finish this year being 9th place.

Douglas’ teenager Jack Murphy is the only other Irish golfer inside the top-50 in the rankings, in 27th place.

The next qualifying events for boys and girls are the French International Boys’ and Girls’ Championships, which will take place on Easter weekend from 6 to 10 April.
