Joshua Hill’s impressive form in South Africa was finally halted in round two of the South African Amateur Championship matchplay as he went down 3&2 to Gregor Graham in Mount Edgecombe.

On a positive note for the Irish, four players managed to book themselves a spot in this afternoon’s last-16 after Peter O’Keeffe, Robert Moran, Matthew McClean and Rob Brazill all came through their second round matches.

Douglas native O’Keeffe was 3UP with five to play against Matthew Rossouw and managed to hold off a late fight back to advance 1UP with a par on 18.

The Walker Cup squad member will face West Lancashire’s Mark Stockdale and at the time of writing is ALL SQUARE through three holes.

Fellow Walker Cup panelist Moran saw off Gregor Tait 3&1 this morning before McClean made it a hat trick of potential Irish Walker Cuppers with a comfortable 3&2 win over Pascal Gunther.

Naas’ Brazill battled superbly to pip Warwick Purchase on the 19th hole in a match he did not lead until the 16th.

In a high quality affair that saw both players four-under through 18 holes, a birdie, birdie run saw the Connacht Strokeplay winner go from 1DN to 1UP before he edged the 19th to advance.
