Ireland booked a championship decider with hosts Spain at the Ladies International Hexagonal Matches at Costa Ballena after they secured second place in the group.

Teeing off third in the group with the top two contesting Saturday’s Championship decider the Girls in Green picked up 2.5 out of 3 points in the morning foursomes before three and a half points in the afternoon singles ties saw them knock Sweden out of the top two.

Emma Fleming of Elm Park and Caitlin Shippham of Ballykisteen picked up a half point against Portugal, before Lahinch’s Aideen Walsh and Olivia Costello of Roscommon eased to a 2UP win over France.

Clandeboye’s Rebekah Gardner and Kate Lanigan of the Hermitage edged to a win on 18 over Spain as Lanigan continued her fine form from the Student Series.

In the afternoon there were singles victories for Fleming, Gardner and Lanigan while Walsh secured a half point that proved vital to bring Ireland to 15.5 points with Sweden only able to amass 15 points.
