Walsh and Higgins in the mix as spring season kicks off in US

Lauren Walsh has roared out of the traps at the UCF Challenge with a five-under 67.

The Wake Forest student carded six birdies and one bogey and is currently three shots behind teammate Rachel Kuehn and UCF’s Anna Nordfors.

Aside from a dropped shot on 14, Walsh carded birdies on 5, 7, 9, 10 13 and 15.

The Castlewarden native is in a share of fifth place as she enters the final semester of her senior year.

Miami’s Sara Byne is in 43rd place on level-par after an opening 72.

Wake Forest hold a four shot lead at the end of day one on twenty-under with Northwestern in second on sixteen-under.

In the Thomas Sharkey Ind. Collegiate, Clemson’s Thomas Higgins is seven shots off the pace heading into the final round on two-under after rounds of 70 and 72. Paker Claxton leads on -9 after rounds of 69 and 66.
