Golf Ireland has named the Irish team for the upcoming Men’s Octagonal Matches which will be held in Costa Ballena, Spain, on 25th-28th January. Six players make up the team, including Liam Nolan who is fresh off his win at the South American Amateur Championship. The tournament features eight European countries, with Ireland set to compete against Germany, Spain, France, Holland, England, Italy and Portugal.

The eight competing teams will be drawn into two groups of four, which will be decided by a lottery during the team presentation ceremony. Each match will have three foursomes matches in the morning and six singles in the afternoon.

Once the round robin has concluded, the two groups will compete with each other according to their group position to determine their overall tournament finish.

Golf Ireland has named a strong Irish team for the upcoming Men’s Octagonal Matches which will be held in Costa Ballena Spain from 25-28 January.

Niall MacSweeney boasts a team full of winners including North and South of Ireland champions Hugh Foley and US Mid-Amateur winner Matt McClean.

Connacht Strokeplay champion Rob Brazill is back among the Irish set up following a comeback season while recent South American Amateur champion Liam Nolan of Galway looks to continue his good form.

Mullingar Scratch Cup winner Joshua Hill has been drafted into the Boys in Green while Irish Mid Am champion Peter O’Keeffe is the elder statesman of the team.

There is no room for Robert Moran who was the 54-hole leader at the Australian Amateur.

Great Britain and Ireland Walker Cup captain Stuart Wilson will surely cast a keen eye on proceedings in Spain with Foley and McClean looking to partner up as they look to continue their 100% record as a pairing.
