81 players from 17 third level institutions will be teeing it up today in the 2022 Intervarsity Championships at Rosslare Golf Club.

Defending Champion Aaron Marshall returns alongside 19 classmates from Maynooth University.

Speaking before the event Marshall said “I’m feeling pretty confident, I’ve been playing quite well since the Interpros so I’m looking forward to seeing where my game is at. I haven’t played much Links golf recently but I’m looking forward to the test.

The third year Business Management student, who was also part of the winning team in 2021, explained why the Championship is so special for students to play.

“You’re amongst people who are the same age and having the same life experiences as you. You’re all on the same platform trying to achieve the same goals. It’s always a great atmosphere at the event.”

The autumn weather and links conditions at Rosslare Golf Club will provide a tough challenge for the field but it’s one that Marshall is looking forward to

“I’m sure it’ll be quite cold and windy! It will really be about trying to control the ball flight in the wind and really staying patient. I haven’t played Rosslare before but I’ve heard it’s a nice track and a good test of golf so I’m really looking forward to playing.”

The Championship will be contested over three rounds with a cut after round two, leaving the top 30 plus ties to play the final round on Friday.
