Hugh Foley, Matthew McClean, Caolan Rafferty and Jody Fanagan have been selected for next month’s Concession Cup where they will be part of a European side to take on the USA in Valderrama.

The 2022 Concession Cup match is a Ryder Cup style competition and will take place at Real Club Valderrama in Sotogrande from the 14-18 November.

The team is made up of six Mid-Amateur players along with four senior players.

Foley of Royal Dublin is the youngest member on the team at 25-years-old having been the best player in Ireland winning the North and South of Ireland titles, becoming the first person since Darren Clarke in 1990 in the process.

The Clontarf native was also beaten in a playoff at the AIG Irish Close Championship by Quentin Carew before reaching the final of the US Mid-Am where close friend McClean pipped him in a historic all Irish USGA final.

Malone’s McClean capped off a great year with that US Mid-Am in Erin Hills which earned him invites to the Masters and US Open next year. The 29-year-old became the first Irishman to win a USGA final.

McClean also performed well abroad with top six finishes at the Lytham Trophy and Brabazon. The Optometrist also made the cut at a Challenge Tour event and made every Irish and international team possible this season.

Caolan Rafferty of Dundalk has been a stalwart of Irish teams through the years and he looked back to his best last year with a really consistent year that included a near-miss in the East of Ireland Championship.

Milltown’s Fanagan is the fourth Irishman on the team after a strong season which included picking up the Irish Senior Men’s Open Championship.
