Walsh seventh as Wake Forest lead in Stephens Cup

Lauren Walsh is in contention to win the Jackson T. Stephens Cup at Seminole Golf Club after she made a significant move up the leaderboard in her second round. 

The Wake Forest student recovered from a morning 74 to shoot an afternoon round of five-under 67 and move into a share of 7th on three-under. 

The Castlewarden native is five shots adrift of Wake Forest teammate Rachel Kuehn heading into the final day. 

The Deacs also have a comfortable eleven shot lead at the summit of the team standings on eighteen-under. 

Walsh was bogey-free in her second round with birdies at the first, seventh and eighth seeing her turn in 33 before the two-time Curtis Cup star added gains on 14 and 18 to cap off an excellent recovery. 

Aine Donegan of LSU is back in the pack on six-over after successive rounds of 75. 

Meanwhile at the Illini Women’s Invitational at Medinah Anna Foster is inside the top-20 with a round to play despite losing some ground in the afternoon. 

The Elm Park golfer was just one shot off the pace after a five-under 67 that included six birdies. But an afternoon effort of 72 saw her remain there as she slipped six shots behind Alabama’s Sarah Edwards. 

The Auburn student might still come away with silverware with her team in fifth, six shots behind San Jose Statee. 

Douglas’ Sara Byrne secured a share of 13th place in the Ivy Intercollegiate at Baltusrol after rounds of 73 and 77. 

It might have been better for the Miami student who found herself fifth and three off the pace after an opening round of 73 but an afternoon round of 77 saw her drift out to six-over, nine shy of the leaders.
