Aideen Walsh secured a 16th place finish at the European Ladies Club Trophy in Slovenia after a weather affected three days.

The competition was reduced to 36 holes and the Lahinch native rounded off her 2022 season with successive rounds of 74 for a six-over total at CUBO Golf.

Walsh finished twelve shots adrift of eventual winner Vairana Heck of RCF La Boulie who pipped teammate Chloe Salort to the title with a final round of 66 on six-under-par.

RCF LA Boulie also scooped the club title with an eleven-under total and a thirteen shot win in a dominant display.

In the final round, the French side took the initiative early and never looked back. Heck, who helped France to the European Girls’ Team Championship title in Iceland this year, went -4 for the front-nine to extend her club’s advantage. Salort then made three birdies in a row early on the back-nine to builld a large gap over Hamburger Golf Club.

Heck and Salort both parred the tricky par-4 18th to sign for bogey-free rounds of 66 (-5) and 67 (-4) respectively, earning a record-extending fifth European title for their club.

Lahinch finished 17th out of the 18 teams in the field on plus thirty-four.

Walsh might have finished higher had it not been for a tumultuous period either side of the turn where she dropped five shots in four holes.

The 24-year-old was in cruise control in her final round with birdies on the first and seventh moving her into the top-10.

However, she endured a horror period as bogeys on eight, nine and eleven were compounded with a double bogey on the par-3 10th.

The Ennis primary school teacher also dropped one on 13 but steadied the ship with a birdie two on the 14th and she eased home with five pars.

Lahinch clubmates Niamh O’Dwyer and Olivia Lucas were +28 and+33 for the two rounds.
