Aideen Walsh finally completed her opening round at the European Ladies’ Club Trophy in CUBO Golf, Slovenia.

It wasn’t just the Alfred Dunhill Links that had to battle the elements, play was suspended on Thursday due to inclement weather with torrential rain forecast for the week.

Walsh was just four shots off the pace on three-over after her opening nine holes and she has remained on that score after eventually signing for a 74.

The Lahinch native began on the back nine which will seem like forever ago. She dropped shots on 13, 15 and 18 before the hooter sounded.

Returning to a saturated golf course on Friday morning, the 24-year-old carded back-to-back birdies on the third and fourth to roar back into the mix.

She did drop shots on the fifth and seventh but came home in a respectable 36 to remain on plus three.

Walsh is in a share of 15th place, five off the pace set by Denmark’s Amelie Leth Nissen and Poland’s Kinga Kusmierska on two-under.

RCF LA Boulie lead the club championship on two-under with a combined score of 140.

Lahinch are 17th out of the 18 teams on seventeen-over.

Walsh has been joined by fellow Lahinch golfers Niamh O’Dwyer and Olivia Lucas who are fourteen and sixteen over respectively in the tough conditions with the golf course playing particularly long as Slovenia enters its wet season.
