Poots, Gardner and Joyce Moreno given the nod for World Girls Championship

Katie Poots, Rebekah Gardner and Marina Joyce Moreno have been selected to represent Golf Ireland at next month’s World Girls Championships in Canada. 

The trio who participated in last week’s KPMG Women’s Irish Open at Dromoland Castle are part of captain Kate Gallacher’s side to head to Ontario from 12-15 October. 

The selection is a just reward for Irish Girls champion Poots who has also added the Connacht Women and Girls and the Fairhaven Trophy to her ever-growing CV. 

The Knock golfer also has a runner-up finish at the Irish Girls Close Championship. 

Clandeboye’s Gardner has also enjoyed a very consistent season. 

The 18-year-old finished third at the Irish Girls Close and has also impressed abroad this year with a runner-up at the English Amateur, third at the Fairhaven and seventh at the Scottish Girls. 

Spanish based Joyce-Moreno had arguably the moment of the week in Dromoland with a hole-in-one at the par-3 13th and she rounds off the Irish team. 

The 16-year-old who is a member of Club de Golf Llavaneras in Barcelona won the Mediterranean Golf Championship earlier this year. 

Meanwhile Golf Ireland has selected a Boys’ and Girls’ team to competed at an U16 Match vs. England which takes place at Royal Birkdale on October 8th and 9th. 

The site of Pádraig Harrington’s second Claret Jug Donnacha Cleary (Tipperary) Sean Cooper (Enniscorthy) Mark Gazi (Tralee) Sean Keeling (Roganstown) Harry McArdle (Warrenpoint) and Jack Murphy (Douglas) will line out for the Boys. 

Anna Abom (Edmondstown) Irish Open participant Olivia Costello (Roscommon) Kate Dillon (Oughterard) Kate Fleming (Elm Park) Hannah Guerin (Royal Tara) and Caitlin Shippam (Ballykisteen) will fly the flag for the Girls.
