Ireland Men and Women qualify for Flight A of European Senior Championships

Ireland will face France in the quarter-final of the Senior Men’s European Championship Flight A after they qualified in second place in Estonia. 

Meanwhile Ireland have set up a showdown with England in flight A of the Senior Women’s European Championship in Slovakia. 

Galway’s Joe Lyons led the charge for Ireland in the Senior Men’s, qualifying in sixth place on one-over-par after rounds of 73 and 72, three behind leading qualifier Carlos Cendra of Spain. 

David Mulholland of Castlerock was next best of the Irish on two-over after following up his level-par 72 with a 74 on day two. 

Four Irish qualified in the top-20 with Christopher O’Connor qualifying in 15th on four-over after successive rounds of 74 while Eamonn Haugh was 20th on the same score. 

Ireland finished two shots behind leading qualifiers Denmark on fifteen-over-par. 

The Irish Ladies secured sixth spot in qualifying to make the top flight after Laura Webb of Portrush showed her side the way, qualifying in 14th place on fourteen-over. 

Macarane Campomanes was the leading qualifier on plus eight. 

Alison Taylor was the next best of the Irish on eighteen-over with Maria O’Reilly and Carol Wickham a shot further back.
