Marina Joyce Moreno earned a half point in her foursomes match as Great Britain and Ireland were beaten 10-8 by Europe in the Junior Vagliano Trophy in Blairgowrie.

Trailing 5.5-3.5 after the opening day, Joyce Moreno led GB&I out in the morning foursomes alongside Rosie Bee Kim where they secured a half point in their match with Carla De Troia and Lynn Van Der Sluijs.

The Club de Golf Llavaneras golfer who also has connections with Portrush found the going difficult in her singles match with Anna Canado Espinal although she did go 1UP after three holes.

However, Joyce Moreno didn’t register a birdie in her match and ultimately fell to a 6&5 defeat at the hands of the Spaniard.

Birdies on the 4th and 5th saw Espinal go from 1 down to 1 up before a whopping five birdies in a row saw her accelerate away from her Irish opponent and win on the 13th and end the day six-under-par for the match. A nearly impossible force to stop.

Europe emerged from the morning foursomes with their two point lead still intact after the session was halved 1.5-1.5.

The match was level after Great Britain and Ireland won the top three singles matches although Joyce Moreno’s match was the second tie to finish.

Another 6&5 win in the anchor match for Europe’s De Troia over Grace Crawford secured the Vagliano Trophy for Europe before Johanna Axelsen earned a comfortable 4&3 win over Amelia Wan.
