Graeme McDowell is set to become the latest Irish sportsman to put his name behind a bottle of whiskey with news that Grey Coast Irish Whiskey is set to be released into the US market.

The Northern Irish star has helped to produce the new Irish-American drop alongside the Boann Distillery in Drogheda and will release the product through Prestige Beverage Group, a Minnesota-based company.

“I’m passionate about Grey Coast because it represents my life’s story and in many ways is a testament to the Irish American dream,” said McDowell who won his sole Major title at the US Open at Pebble Beach in 2010.

“It’s a marker of history and accomplishment, a celebration of friends and family, a symbol of dreams turned reality, and a nod to a life well-lived.

“I’ve worked hard to ensure this whiskey reflects who I am – and I couldn’t be happier with the result.”

The 42-year old says he’s overseen “every aspect” of the project and after sampling this latest iteration of ‘uisce beatha’ at every sip along the way, McDowell says he couldn’t be happier with the result.

“From overseeing every aspect of the brand to doing numerous tastings until the unique blend of whiskies was just right, I’ve worked hard to ensure this whiskey reflects who I am – and I couldn’t be happier with the result,” said McDowell.

Mike Morgan, President Prestige Beverage Group, added:

“We are looking forward to launching Grey Coast, Irish Whiskey that stands out from the genre. Combining tradition and technical know-how with the personal influence of Graeme McDowell, this group has created something that will undoubtedly connect with lovers of Irish whiskey and attract others to this rapidly growing category.”

Grey Coast Irish Whiskey (80 proof / 40.0% ABV, $36.99 SRP / 700ML) will be available at participating grocers, liquor stores, and restaurants, in markets across the US.

McDowell’s foray into the whiskey market follows UFC star Conor McGregor’s unveiling of Proper No. Twelve; the Dubliner’s whiskey launched in Ireland and the USA in September 2018. McGregor claimed a month ago that his whiskey brand is the fastest growing in the US:

“Proud to announce that Proper No. Twelve has advanced its [sic] positioning in the Irish whiskey rankings this week with another giant leap forward towards our eventual number 1 spot! We are the fastest growing Irish whiskey in all of history and with the latest figures just released, our projections are, to put it lightly, simply unstoppable!”
