East Cork’s David Ryan fired a superb four-under par round of 66 to pip Carlow’s Damien McGrane to victory at the PGA Southern Branch Championship at Monkstown Golf Club on Thursday.

The former Cahir Park pro landed an eagle on his way to a formidable four-under par mark with McGrane matching the eagle but falling one shot shy of the winning target after signing for a 67.

The pair were the only two players to break par on a beautiful day in the capital with Ciaran Molloy, Eoin O’Connor and Limerick’s Tim Rice all signing for even par efforts to share the podium.
