Shane Lowry buried the bitter disappointment of last Sunday’s final round at the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship to unwind on Monday playing in the company of England football internationals Harry Maguire and Jordan Pickford at the Els Club in Dubai.
Lowry went into the last round in Abu Dhabi just one shot off the lead as the Irishman looked to become a dual winner of the event, though it wasn’t to be with Lowry posted a closing day 77 to slump to an eventual share of 12th place.
And while he made a bee-line for a waiting courtesy car parked right at the front doors of the Yas Links clubhouse, it was all smiles on Monday, around a 70-minute drive ‘up the road’ in Dubai.
Joining the group also was Horizon Sports Brian Moran, who manages Lowry’s business affairs.
Lowry later posted an Instagram, comment and snap saying: “Great group today in Dubai. Easy money for the Irish.”
Responding to the post, Manchester United captain Maguire said: “We’ll get revenge on our home patch.”
In fairness to Lowry’s bitter disappointment on Sunday, he did go onto his twitter account saying: “Wasn’t good enough today unfortunately….. thanks to all the Irish that came out today to support and for all your support back home. Sorry I couldn’t deliver.”
This week Lowry will be teeing-up in the Slyco.io Dubai Desert Classic, joining two-time winner Rory McIlroy and also Padraig Harrington.
And don’t be surprised to see Maguire and Pickford following Lowry around the Emirates course as the players are on their winter break from Premier League competition.
