Carr Golf, Ireland’s leading provider of golf club management and maintenance services, has signed a multi-year golf course maintenance contract with Rathsallagh Golf Club in Co. Wicklow. The deal comes on the back of commencing work at Edmondstown, Ardglass, Ballyclare and Lucan Golf Clubs in 2021.
Rathsallagh Golf Club first opened in 1994 and was designed by Peter McEvoy and the late Christy O’Connor Junior. In 2015, current owner Robert Neill purchased the Club and it continues to feature as one of the best golf courses in Wicklow.
The Golf Club is only 30 minutes south of Co. Dublin and is routed over rolling terrain, preserving all the mature trees and with several burns, ditches and ponds that bring water into play on several holes. The bunkers are especially challenging, and the greens were built to the highest USGA specification.
Over the years it has challenged and delighted golfers of all abilities and was included as one of the top 60 golf courses in Ireland in the 2021 rankings by Irish Golfer. As a Parkland, it is ranked amongst the best in the country.
A primary focus of the agreement is to raise course presentation standards to a level that exceeds member and visitor expectations. In conjunction with Aindriu Jackson, Regional Superintendent, the service will be delivered under the guidance of Carr Golf Head Greenkeeper, Barry Kavanagh, who will oversee and manage the daily operations at the Club.
Kavanagh had previously managed operations at two other courses in the Carr Golf portfolio. His appointment to the Head Greenkeeper role at Rathsallagh Golf Club will see him work closely with the current team and Club management to execute the work programme and drive the standards of course presentation.
Ed Pettit, Managing Director, Maintenance Division at Carr Golf said: “We are delighted to start 2022 on such a positive note with the announcement of our agreement with Rathsallagh Golf Club.
“It is a breath-taking golf course and is extremely well known across Ireland with a strong reputation. We are delighted that Barry will be overseeing daily operations and we look forward to working closely with Robert Neill, Vera Brennan and Ted Higgins, Director of Golf.”
Rathsallagh Golf Club brings the Carr Golf portfolio of golf course maintenance clients to 21 across the country. Four clients renewed their multi-year agreements during 2021, an endorsement of the company’s service delivery and close working relationship with clients.
Ted Higgins, Director of Golf, PGA Professional said: “I’m excited by the new development; Carr Golf deliver a highly professional product. Our General Manager, Vera Brennan, and Robert Neill are confident that the new arrangement and enhanced investment will provide golfers with the consistently high standard presented at Carr Golf maintained golf courses.
“This deal will really strengthen the club’s quality status and open up an exciting new future.”
