With the modified alternate shot format used in the second round at the QBE Shootout both players on a team played from the teeing area on each hole, after which the team must select a ball to be used for the next stroke. The partners play alternately from the team’s second stroke on each hole.

And having been just one shot off the pace after round one, Graeme McDowell and Corey Connors find themselves in 5th place and four shots off the pace after the second round of the 2021 QBE-Shootout after they added a 67 to their opening 57 for a 124 total.

The tournament lead is now held by the Australian duo of Jason Day & Marc Leishman who followed a 16-under 56 in round one’s Scramble format with six birdies and an eagle in round two’s Modified Alternate Shot which was good enough for an 8-under 64.

The highlight of their round was another hole-out from Leishman who holed his second at the par-4 10th on day one and then did the same thing again on the par-4 7th in round two and looking at the records, where leads after round two have been converted to victories 20 times from 32 attempts, the odds are now in the Aussies favour to lift the title.

The defending champions Harris English & Matt Kuchar are looking to spoil the Aussie party though and are just three shots off the lead in second place as they bid to become the third team to successfully defend the QBE Shootout title after Brad Faxon/Scott McCarron (2000-01) and Jeff Sluman/Hank Kuehne (2003-04).

They followed an eagle at the first with four birdies in their round for a 123 total and are tied in second on 123 with Sam Burns/Billy Horschel as the first-time team put together 10 birdies to post the low round of the day with a 62; the tournament record in the Modified Alternate Shot format at Tiburon Golf Club is a 13-under 59, carded by the pairing of John Daly and Frank Lickliter in 2001, the tournament’s first year at the venue.

Meanwhile Jason Kokrak/Kevin Na are also tied second after they offset back-to-back bogeys at Nos. 10 and 11 with 10 birdies to post an 8-under 64 ahead of the third round four-balls.
