Cormac Sharvin was trying to savour every moment after he returned his best week as a professional at his National Open at Lahinch.

The Ardglass pro led the home challenge for the week, finding five birdies under immense pressure to sign off with an even-par 70 for a nine-under par tally.

His performance was worthy of a top-15 finish that saw Sharvin bank a cheque worth roughly €90,000 as well as a bunch of new fans as the 26-year old’s professional career continues to go from strength to strength in 2019.

“I knew coming into this week that I could compete with these guys and I tried to just keep myself in that mindset all week and I proved that I can,” said Sharvin.

“I seem to play really well when I have a big crowd. I don’t know what it is, maybe I just focus a bit more but I actually want to really show everyone how good I am. It’s nearly like a showman mentality. I feel really comfortable with the crowds and I just wanted to show them what game I have.”

The result should prove a major steppingstone for the consistent Challenge Tour performer, not least the money banked; a huge asset for Sharvin when he takes aim at the top-15 on the money list as he tries to elevate his status to the Main Tour.

“It’s obviously a bit of comfort,” added Sharvin. “I always like to have a caddie so that helps me have a caddie from now on. Caddies are expensive but I don’t have to worry about that side of things which is a big help for sure.

“I already had huge confidence in my ability to win my Tour card this year on the Challenge Tour and this is only going to add to that. Hopefully I can kick on now, get off the Challenge Tour as quickly as possible and get out and compete with these guys.”
