Shane Lowry rewrote the narrative of his season with a clinical thumping display of front-running as he pummelled the field into submission to win his second Irish Open and his first victory since 2022. Just south in the Netherlands, Leona Maguire also changed the fortunes of her year as she played a key role in helping Europe win back the Solheim Cup with a thrilling win over the USA. The touchpaper was lit, though, by one of sport’s greatest comebacks as GB&I downed the USA in Lahinch for their first triumph since 2015.
