Elm Park amateur Emma Fleming got a front row seat to see what makes a three-time major winner tick as she shared the Carton House fairways with Anna Nordqvist on day three of the KPMG Women’s Irish Open.
Fleming mixed two birdies and two bogeys in a steady round of 73 to remain on level-par and it’s been a morale boosting week for the Dubliner who was keen to learn from the European Solheim Cup captain.
The economics and finance student might end up doing the Swede’s accounts going forward!
“When I saw the draw last night I was very excited just to see how she played. Her strategy was really impressive, laying up and things like that, she chose the smart shot so that was interesting to see,” explained Fleming who will play her final round before heading to France as part of the Ireland team for the European Championships.
“She was lovely, she talked about the admin on the LPGA and how it’s set up. I was asking her about why people are playing this event. I would like to manage her accounts!”
Fleming has been backed by a strong Elm Park support and she was busy signing autographs and taking photos with the fans once she left the 18th green.
“I think Anna brought the crowd so they were probably there more for her than me but it was good! “I’m loving it, it’s pretty cool to play a professional event and making the cut makes it better.”
Fleming is pleased with how she is playing and her confidence was already high coming into the week after winning the Victorian Amateur, a prestigious title in Australia earlier this year.
“I’m happy with how I’m hitting it. My driver is better so that’s why I was happy with my scoring with how windy it was. My driver is more reliable which takes the big numbers out of play. My putting was good the first two days, I struggled today. I was putting it nice but they just weren’t dropping.”
