Liam Nolan threatened a maiden professional victory but settled for a third place finish at the Danish Golf Challenge as he gave his hopes of earning a DP World Tour card a boost.
Nolan finished third and fourth in his first two starts on the HotelPlanner Tour but had missed his last five cuts before a final round of 68 saw him have a run at a victory at Bogense Golf Club.
The Galway man birdied the par-3 18th to set the clubhouse lead on sixteen-under-par but was eventually overtaken by Calum Fyfe in second place and winner Jonathan Goth Rasmussen who finished on nineteen-under.
Nolan started his final round well with two birdies in his first four holes but a bogey on the eighth, birdie on the tenth and another bogey on the par-5 12th stalled him before he rallied to the finish line with there birdies in his last five holes.
The 25-year-old was 15th in the Road to Mallorca Rankings before the tournament began and his third top-4 finish of the season has seen him climb up to seventh in the season long race for one of 20 DP World Tour cards.
“You can get caught up in these order of merits and all of these rankings and stuff like that but at the end of the day if you strip it back you are just trying to go play in golf tournaments, compete and win so when it comes down to it that’s what it will always be about for me and that is the approach I will take between now and the end of the season,” said Nolan.
20-year-old Daniel Mulligan shared 61st place on level-par after a final round of 75.
